Valeria Galimova plays Sonatina Meridional by Ponce

Russian guitarist Valeria Galimova plays Sonatina Meridional by Manuel Ponce (1882-1948) on a 2013 Andreas Kirschner Classical Guitar. Video and sound made by Ayrat Abdullin. This comes via Siccas Guitars Youtube. I’ve featured Galimova on the site before playing Quatre Pièces Brèves by Martin and was very impressed with her playing. She has a beautiful tone but still very clear with nicely defined phrases and articulations. I’ve always loved this sonata by Ponce but don’t hear it very often these days. You can find the sheet music via Amazon: Sonatina Meridional by Ponce.

  1. Hello! Just wanted to point out StringsByMail is an incredible resource for all things guitar, and that Ponce’s ‘Sonatina Meridional’ is available for purchase for quite a bit less than on Amazon. I’ve ordered a handful of goodies from the website and not only does everything arrive promptly, I’ve also always gotten a handwritten “thank you!” note. So much nicer than giving money to the overlord(s) at amazon.
