Thomas Boysen (Vihuela) Plays Milan

Thomas C. Boysen plays Fantasia XI from El Masestro (1536) by Luis de Milán (c.1500-1561) on a Vihuela da Mano by Lourdes Uncilla. Really nice playing by Boysen with beautiful phrasing and pacing. Great to see an authentic performance up close and the sound is nice too. For those unfamiliar with lute and vihuela technique that cross over thumb – finger is authentic and partially gives that strong-weak feel to the melodic lines. Lovely.

If you’re interested in Milan I have an edition of the Six Pavans by Luis de Milán along with video performances.
