Rebeca Oliveira Plays Improvisacion, Op.1 by Fortea

Rebeca Oliveira performs Improvisación, Op.1 by Spanish composer and guitarist Daniel Fortea (1878–1953). This comes via her great YouTube channel. Excellent performance by Oliveira with a refined rhythmic feel and crisp, clean playing throughout. Sensible musicality but exciting too. Also, I feel I learn something about technique every time I watch her fingers move with such economy. Here’s her YouTube description:

An outstanding Spanish Guitar virtuoso and composer, Daniel Fortea was a student of Francisco Tarrega. Fortea began his professional guitar studies at age 6, and soon developed into a famous concert performer with regular appearances in Madrid, Barcelona and other major cities in Spain. Fortea published his own compositions and founded Biblioteca Fortea, with almost 1000 works, almost exclusively for guitar.

  1. Wow–several years ago I got my hands on a bunch of old Biblioteca Fortea sheet music (most in poor condition) and I didn’t know he was a composer (!) This is a fun piece, and Oliveira handles all those jumps in position very very well.
