Pablo Sáinz Villegas performs the famous concerto Fantasía para un gentilhombre by Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo (1901-1999) with Orquesta de la Minería, México and director José Luis Castillo. This comes via his YouTube channel. The four movements are: I. Villano y Ricercar (Adagietto); II. Españoleta y Fanfare de la Caballería de Nápoles (Adagio – Allegretto); III. Danza de las Hachas (Allegro con brio); and IV. Canario. The four movements are based on six dances for solo Baroque guitar by the 17th-century Spanish composer Gaspar Sanz but of course reimagined in Rodrigo’s musical language. Actually, my Gaspar Sanz Collection sheet music edition includes all six dances chosen as a set, in part because of this work.
