Michael Kolk Plays Sonata No. 1 by Guastavino

Canadian guitarist Michael Kolk performs the first movement, Allegro deciso e molto rítmico from Sonata No.1 Para Guitarra by Carlos Guastavino (1912-2000). This comes via his excellent YouTube Channel with audio and video by Henderson. Wonderful performance by Kolk with beautiful flowing lines, refined phrasing, articulation, and plenty of forward momentum. It doesn’t get any better than this! Kolk is one of the best players today so be sure to subscribe to him and check out his below album.

The complete sonata can be heard on his fantastic album 20th Century Guitar Sonatas, available through his website or on streaming platforms. I did a review of it back in 2020 if you want to learn more. Also see his previously posted videos of the Jose Sonata and the Rabey Sonata.
