Marcin Dylla Plays Ständchen by Schubert – Mertz

Marcin Dylla plays Ständchen by Franz Schubert (1797–1828) on a 1924 Hermann Hauser via Siccas Guitars and their Youtube channel. The arrangement is by Johann Kaspar Mertz (1806-1856) who arranged many of Schubert’s works for solo guitar and often played guitar accompaniments to the songs as well. Mertz’s guitar music was greatly influenced by the pianistic models of Chopin, Schubert and Schumann. The works are a bit tricky to get the melody phrased well and naturally but they are musically well worth the effort.
