Segovia Op. 29 by Albert Roussel

Ségovia Op. 29 (1925) by French composer Albert Roussel (1869-1937). Performed by Lorenzo Micheli via his great YouTube channel. Ségovia Op.29 was composed in 1925 and dedicated to Andrés Segovia and was the only work for guitar by Roussel. The work was premiered in Madrid in 1925 by the dedicatee. The score was published the same year by Durand in the original version for solo guitar as well as in a piano transcription by Albert Roussel. This is one of those one-off works of the early 20th century that we are so lucky to have and yet there are so little larger-scale works, especially for French music. Excellent playing and attention to motivic detail by Micheli.

You can find the sheet music via IMSLP which is int eh public domain.

Below is the piano version performed by Jean-Pierre Armengaud via this Naxos album.
