Packington’s Pound from Mathew Holmes Lute Book (Cambridge Ms Nn.6.36), Anonymous Renaissance Lute. This charming Renaissance work is a popular selection in many anthologies. It sits on the guitar nicely and presents a beautiful set of melodies with melodic variations.

Bar 1 (and elsewhere) – The jumping of the 1st finger from C to G sharp is not ideal but sounds fine if a careful sustain and legato is used. An alternative fingering would be to use the 3rd and 4th finger on the chord and 2nd finger on the C which would leave the 1st finger free to play G sharp.
