Jason Vieaux plays Gigue BWV 996 by Bach

Jason Vieaux - Guitar

American guitarist and recent Grammy winner Jason Vieaux plays  Gigue (6th mvt.) from Lute Suite No.1 in E minor, BWV 996 by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). This comes via Colorado Public Radio and their YouTube. It’s a thick piece which makes his technique look pretty stiff and sound a tad choppy but I like the counterpoint and voice independence he’s getting and the rhythmic drive. The guy can play, no denying that!

You can pick up sheet music via Amazon: Bach Lute Suites (Koonce). I’ve been thinking of releasing a clean and un-fingered edition of the lute suites alongside a fingered one….see you in a few months!
