Artist Videos and GuitarFest West Festival and Competition

GuitarFest West

I was checking out the concerts for GuitarFest West at Mount Royal University Conservatory, Calgary, Alberta, Canada and thought I’d do a video showcase of the performing artists. GFW features workshops, lessons, masterclasses, performances, and an optional competition for classical guitar students ages 13+.   • August 7-9, 2024 (Early bird deadline is July 4, registration ends August 1)
  • Competition: First Prize: $1000, concert at GuitarFest West 2025, concert in Nelson, BC, piece written for the winner by composer Ben Lahring + professional video recording of the piece. Second Prize: $500, Third Prize: $250
  • Special Acknowledgements for outstanding performance of a piece by a female/non-binary composer and outstanding performance of a piece by a Canadian composer

Bradford Werner is a classical guitarist and music publisher from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. He originally created this site for his students at the Victoria Conservatory of Music but now shares content worldwide. Curating guitar content helps students absorb the culture, musical ideas, and technique of the classical guitar. Bradford also has a YouTube channel with over 94,000 subscribers and 13 million views. He taught classical guitar at the Victoria Conservatory of Music for 16 years and freelanced in Greater Victoria for 20 years and now dedicates much of his time curating content online and helping connect the classical guitar community.
