Saverio Gabrielli (violin) and Lorenzo Bernardi (guitar) perform the Overture from Tancredi by Gioacchino Rossini (1792-1868), arranged by Ferdinando Carulli (1770-1841) from his Choix de 12 Ouvertures de la Composition de Rossini arrangées pour Guitare et Violon. This comes via Bernardi’s YouTube channel. Wonderful performance and really breathing life and excitement into the Carulli arrangement. Here’s what Bernardi mentions via his YouTube:
Gioachino Rossini’s opera Tancredi sees its first performance on 6 February 1813 at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. The typical characteristics of Rossini’s music are well represented here: the extreme rhythmic brilliance, liveliness, freshness and at the same time the elegance of the Italian bel canto. The opening overture, performed here in a captivating arrangement for violin and guitar by Ferdinando Carulli, well summarizes these Rossinian peculiarities.
