A wonderful interview with the legendary Brazilian guitarist Fabio Zanon. This video comes from the amazing GuitarCoop and their YouTube Channel. This is partly a promo for his CD but he talks a great deal about the history of the Romantic guitar and how it’s important to recognize the guitars composers as part of the era rather than comparing them to historical greats such as Schumann or Chopin; create a ‘dialogue’ between the two. It’s such a great discussion and really teaches us, not only the history itself, but how to conceptualize the specialized nature of guitar. Zanon is one of my favourite players, a mature and and intelligent musician but also a virtuoso guitarist.
