Evangelina Mascardi Plays Prelude, Fugue, and Allegro BWV 998 by Bach

Evangelina Mascardi performs Prelude, Fugue, and Allegro BWV 998 by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) on a 13 course baroque lute built by Cezar Mateus (2010). Recorded at Palazzo Vescovile Orte, Italy. This comes via Edoardo Lambertenghi’s excellent YouTube channel. Another wonderful performance by Mascardi with a lovely rhythmic delivery, especially in the fugue. You can check out her recording of the complete lute works of Bach here.

  3. I can’t help (when I hear PFA BWV 998) I compare to my “reference recording” (the one on which I imprinted over 40 years ago)–that of Eugen Dombois. Mascardi takes these at a faster tempo than Dombois (esp. the Prelude) and greater rubato (esp. in the Fugue). Both versions are magnificent!
