Eden Stell Duo Play Sérénade by Jolivet

Eden Stell Guitar Duo with Mark Eden and Christopher Stell perform Sérénade pour deux Guitares by André Jolivet (1905-1974). This comes via the Duo’s YouTube channel. Great performance of this excellent duo originally written for Ida Presti and Alexandre Lagoya. Lots of nice moments and textures from agitated, extroverted exchanges to melodic and mysterious sensitivity.

Here’s some of their description via their YouTube:

‘Sérénade pour deux Guitares’ by André Jolivet (1905-1974) was composed in 1956 for Ida Presti and Alexandre Lagoya, a groundbreaking guitar duo who commissioned many important new works for two guitars of which Jolivet’s ‘Serenade’ can be considered a highlight. The work is one of the most audaciously modern works of its time for the guitar, predating the vanguard of guitar works created through Julian Bream’s instigation. The Serenade is unique in its sonic originality showcasing Jolivet’s command for the guitars harmonic scope, tone colour, texture and articulation … in short it is a masterpiece or extraordinary originality.

Celebrating Ida Presti’s centenary year in 2024 we are excited to have recorded and released the Serenade as part of our recording ‘Ida’ ‪@deux-ellesrecords4322‬ Big thank you to Jiva Housdon for the film.
