Drew Henderson Plays Campanas del alba by Eduardo Sainz de la Maza

Canadian guitarist Drew Henderson performs Campanas del alba by Eduardo Sainz de la Maza (1903-1982). This comes via Henderson’s excellent YouTube channel. Another great video by Henderson after last week’s Paganini vid. First and foremost I love his exquisite performances but add to that pristine sound and recording techniques and he’s just the best. Here’s his Youtube description about this work:

Here is a beautiful tremolo piece by the Spanish composer Eduardo Sainz de la Maza. The title translates to “The Bells of Dawn”, which you hear during the harmonics section at the open and close.

Eduardo was the brother of Regino Sainz de la Maza, who was also a composer and most famously the dedicatee of Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez.

Have to say though his playing position with the footstool and the cushion is very odd with what’s available now
