The excellent Canadian guitarist Drew Henderson plays Fantasie by German lutenist and composer Sylvius Leopold Weiss (1687-1750). Drew is one of my favorite guitarists and Weiss my favorurite lute composer! Actually, last year I got a chance to go to Dresden and check out his digs at the various palaces and castles of Augustus the Strong to whom Weiss was employed (as the highest paid musician) at court. There are some great period letters describing visits between Weiss and Bach where they competed improvising fugues, Weiss on lute and Bach on organ. Anyway, I ramble… but great playing as usual by Henderson.
